Smålandsstövare - Smaland Hound
The Smålandsstövare (Smaland Hound) is a breed of dog that originated in Sweden in the 16th century. Thought to be the oldest scent hound breed in Sweden, it was first recognized by the Swedish Kennel Club in 1921.
The Smålandsstövare typically weighs between 33 and 40 pounds (15 to 18 kg), and stands 17–20 inches (43–51 cm) tall. The coat is typically black with tan markings, similar to those of a Rottweiler. It has been thought that perhaps the Smålandsstövare's naturally short tail(never docked) was a trait created by a very early breeder named Baron von Essen.
Although mostly seen as a hunter's companion, The Smalandsstovare is quite a willing dog and can make an ever-lasting friend. The Smalandsstovare is very loyal to one's owner and will put itself between an intruder.
